“Abstract Formalism in the work of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker”
Abstract formalistic dance put the emphasis on the movement as it unfolds in time and space away from any attempt to represent a narrative, be invested with a meaning or carry psychological and emotional references.
It comes to celebrate the human body in its motion, stillness and relationship with other bodies offering a pure sensory experience.
However, it remains deeply expressive as under the structures and form, it brings symbolism.
It is a product of human body, is being created by human beings and human beings are much more than simply moving abstractions.
